Find out what movies made the cut in Brandon's Top 10 Horror Films Of 2014...
As a fan of film and horror, it’s nice after 34 years to have a group of individuals who love the genre as much as I do. The 22 Shots FB page has been a great way to talk to true fans and good people about the films I love and enjoy most. I studied screenwriting and film critique a while back, so I tend to be more positive about all the films I watch. I figure even if I don’t like it, there is an audience for it somewhere. I also tried my hands at writing and completed a screenplay. Anyone who has ever done this knows it is not easy work. I was aiming for a psychological thriller and my instructor ending up telling me it read more like a Woody Allen film. So I guess I completely missed the mark.  Anyhow, these days I’m just a fan and looking forward to sharing my opinions on the films I see.  This was not an easy year to squeeze down to 10 films. I would say based on the talent from the 10 below and the other 15 I posted on the FB page, the horror genre is heading in an exciting direction. If anyone wants to know anything or just chat, hit me up on Facebook. I’m always willing to have some good horror related conversation.  Thanks again to the Big 3 JP, Moodz, and Jeremy. You guys are doing an awesome job and I look forward hearing what’s in store for 2015.

This list was comprised by films that had wide releases in 2014.

#10 - Under The Skin
A visual masterpiece. Stunningly beautiful and haunting at the same time. Scarlet Johansson gives an amazing performance with almost no dialogue in the film.

#9 - The Purge: Anarchy
Whether or not you liked the first film or not, the second is a superior film. Wasting no time in creating tension and suspense mixed with great action. The film is lot more fun than the first, while still managing to frighten you with its original concept and ongoing social commentary.

#8 - Late Phases
A modern werewolf masterpiece. Amazing effects mixed with a strong lead character make this one a standout of the year.

#7 - Pieces of Talent
Proof that a low budget doesn’t mean a thing. This film looked like a million bucks. Great performances and a very tragic and sad story played out in a most horrific way.

#6 - The Babadook
A complete surprise hit for me. Was not expecting the type of movie I watched. Looking at just a trailer is very misleading. This film has a lot to offer including a phenomenal

#5 - Proxy
The most uniquely structured of the films on my top 10 list. Great performances given by 3 actresses who each seemed to the stars of their own segments of the film. Dark subject matter that challenges even the most diehard horror fans.

Picture
#4 - Starry Eyes
The best breakout performance of the year by the main actress. This a film that will stick with you long after the credits have rolled.
Picture
#3 - Housebound
The most fun film of 2014. I found myself entertained with a pure mix of horror and dark comedy. The cast was great and a standout performance from the lead actress.

#2 - Worm
Brilliant concept and story executed beautifully. Was my top choice for a long time until I saw The Battery
Picture
#1 - The Battery
The only film of the year I give a perfect 10. The last line of the movie is epic and I absolutely loved the acting and the music.

nks for sharing the article, and more importantly, your personal exp erience mindfully using our emotions as data about our inner state and knowing when it’s better to de-escalate by taking a time out are great tools. Appreciate you reading and sharing your story since I can certainly relate and I think others can to
