'Fake Blood' is directed by Rob Grant and is a mockumentary about Rob and his friend Mike, who are horror movie filmmakers. One day, Rob receives a disturbing fan video leading the pair to wonder if their work can influence others to commit violent acts. This leads the two down an extremely dark tunnel that threatens to tear apart their long friendship. First off, I want to say kudos to the director because I was thoroughly convinced this film was the real deal for most of its running time, which in turn kept me invested and kept watching waiting to see what happened next. I myself am a fan of these faux documentary films and it’s nice to see one that felt entirely possible, rather than the usual 'Quarantine' or 'Blair Witch'. Part of the film's theme is the influence of violent media and can it influence a troubled individual to commit horrible acts but like the filmmakers themselves, 'Fake Blood' tends to lose sight of what it's trying to tell its audience. While I found myself intrigued by each twist and turn these two took, it can be aggravating or downright annoying to many viewers (my friend included). By the end, I wasn't really sure what the message of the film was or if it was even trying to have a message. Perhaps that was Rob's intention, but I was thinking about the movie a bit afterwards it is hard to connect the dots into one main piece. It was a stalker film, a film about relationships, a film about movie violence and many other things and it's obvious that Rob has a good story to tell here, but it just needed a little more focus. Overall, it's a flawed but still entertaining film and I will be personally checking out some more of Rob Grant's work.
