Not much happened throughout the horror history of Jan 2nd. One thing that did happen is that the 4th Tremors film Tremors 4: The Legend Begins was released direct-to-video. It was the 3rd sequel to be released D-T-V. The first film is a legit A list production and remains one of my favorites, Tremors II: Aftershocks is one of the best D-T-V sequels of all time, and Tremors 3 is not great but still not bad. Tremors 4 is one of those weird kinda prequels like Gingersnaps 3. Where you have a ancestor of our series hero but its played by the same actor and is pretty much the same person. Those who have seen it know what I'm talking about.
I remember this release happening because I was obsessed with Tremors 1-3. I loved that the Sci-fi channel would run the then trilogy over and over. It was during a marathon when I first seen the ad for Tremors 4. I was so pumped that another film was made. It was such a surprise to find out that another sequel was not only happening, but was already finished and awaiting release. See even back in the 2003 era, It was still early in my internet days. So you could still be surprised by things like that. Now we know about a film before its even greenlit. After the ad they kept showing a number on the bottom of the screen to call and order the DVD. I had my grandma call and they wanted 3 payments of $29.99 or some craziness like that. Long story short I waited for it to premier on TV. It was disappointing...
Good news! The long awaited Tremors 5 was finally announced in 2014.
Tremors 5 is currently in production in South Africa, featuring a returning Michael Gross and new co-star Jamie Kennedy. The film will be released on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital HD in 2016.
